Scottsboro Boys Story

                                               the scottsboro boys case was a case in 1931 that marked the American civil rights movement, this case proved to be the most cruel and unfair trial for african-americans. the scottsboro trial began in alabama were nine boys were heading to memphis, tenesse to look for jobs this was around the great drepression. a white man stepped into a black man hand haywood patterson whom was riding with his fellow friends. a fight broke out between them having the train stop at paint rock, alabama where the boys were sent to get of the train. in the processes of getting out two young white girls victoria price and ruby gates who was a minor taveling in search of a job. the nine boys were sent to jail right after and were sent to trial. their trial began in april 1931 were they weren't given the opportunity to gather their witnesses and key points to defend themselves.it was then settled in the first trial eight of them were sentenced to death while the youngest ramined in imprison.it was then the international labor defense took over their case who wanted to put a stop to racism in the south and aid economic debt. to appeal the opening of the court case the scottboro boys the IlD made protest, rallies, marches, Poster, among other things. The court case was brought to Alabama court case and this tiral was under the protection of the fourteeth admendment because of powell vs. alabama. ruby gates declared herself guilty she stated that price accussed them of rape because she was in fear that they would throw her in jail because of bringing a minor for prostitution. the jury maintained the case open. judge horton concluded that they were innnocent because he met with the medical examinars who concluded that they were lying. it had no effect on the case norris and patterson were convicted to death for the third time.the court once again opened the case yet again but patterson was now sentenced to prison for 75yrs. ozzie powell was shot due to his attempt to escape, charlie weems was released 1943, andy wright and norris were paroled a year later but were yet again to return because of thir probation, haywood escaped, and norris the last of scottsboro boys to live was released in 1976.
